Marilyn Nelson-Cashman, Esq.
Ms. Cashman is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn. She founded The Cashman Law Firm, P.C., after a decade and a half as a successful trial attorney throughout the Courts of the State of New York. Her knowledge of the Law, together with her tenacious and aggressive skills on behalf of her clients as a trial attorney, has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in favorable outcomes through jury verdicts, settlements and mediations.
After graduating from New York University, Ms. Cashman attended Hofstra University School of Law in Hempstead, L.I. There she received her J.D. degree and served as President of the Student Bar Association. During that time, Ms. Cashman earned several prestigious trial awards and was a member of the Trial Team, the Criminal Defense Clinic, the Gaelic Law Society, the Latino American Law Students Association and a major contributor to The Conscience, the Law School's editorial newspaper.
Ms. Cashman began her trial career in 1997 where she represented a defendant facing several criminal charges. As a result of Ms. Cashman's tenacious cross examination of questionable witnesses, the jury trial resulted in an acquittal of her client of all charges. Ms. Cashman knew at that time she had found her calling. She continued her passion for criminal defense work and was appointed as a Staff Attorney to the Kings County Legal Aid Society, Criminal Defense Division. There she represented indigent defendants charged with serious felony cases, many of whom faced decades in prison if convicted. Ms. Cashman's devotion to the rights of her clients, and her hard work on behalf of those who had entrusted her with their freedom, resulted in a tenure with the Legal Aid Society which was singularly notable for her remarkable trial successes.
In 2004, Ms. Cashman made the transition from criminal to civil litigation, working as a Senior Trial Attorney for a prestigious insurance defense firm, located downtown Manhattan. After several years representing people and insurance companies who were sued for personal injuries, she then embarked on a career, continuing as a Senior Trial Attorney for an established plaintiffs personal injury firm located in Union Square, Manhattan. There she focused her trial skills on representing those individuals injured by the negligence of others, including doctors and hospitals who committed medical malpractice, as well as representing those who have been hurt in accidents and falls.
Ms. Cashman founded The Cashman Law Firm, P.C., to better serve her present and future clients needs by providing that personal service and client contact necessary for a successful settlement or result at trial. She is not afraid to tackle the issues and conflicts that other attorneys feel are too difficult to take on. She is highly regarded by both her adversaries in the legal community and the Judges in the Courthouses of New York.
Ms. Cashman is admitted to practice law in the State Courts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and The United States Supreme Court; is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, The New York City Bar Association and The Brooklyn Bar Association. She is a guest lecturerat various CUNY and SUNY Law Schools and is also fluent in Spanish.
